Puppy Moments

N sits coveting his plaid blanket

A hollow whine turned growl echos from him

A dog toy rolls out from somewhere under the couch

Within the safety of this somewhere, X is in an army crawl, barking at D, playful, but shy

D barks, pauses, listens

A whimper followed by a puppy’s playful growl come from the couch

A tail is wiggles back and forth

She’s playing keep away from her brother

D is intrigued by her

He wants to catch her

He chases after her, trying to fit his head under the couch

Her tail wags on the opposite side of the couch

He stares at me then at the couch

She’s crawls out, then quickly dives back to safety

N continues to guard his blanket

D circles the couch and barks in angst — come out — NOW!!!

He paws at the floor in front of her

He does not like that I laugh at him

he stops and turns towards me, ears as big as satellites
